Behold... the Piecaken!
Dec. 1st, 2013 01:55 pmFor
dorispossum and
bdikkat's annual Thanksgiving-themed party I rashly offered to try making Piecaken.
To my amazement, it worked:

The top layer is home-made apple pie embedded in vanilla sponge. The bottom layer is home-made cherry pie (using cherries marinaded in Kirsch for four months) embedded in chocolate sponge. The whole lot is held together and covered in vanilla buttercream icing, and because that didn't look very neat has a layer of fondant icing on top. Additional decoration (and much advice and help) from
attimes_bracing, who will probably be posting pics of her own cake-making efforts for the same party.
General feedback was positive (with a large side-order of WTF!) but I've now been asked what I'm going to do to top this next year...
