The Great British Beer Festival is taking place at Olympia from 5th-9th August, and the August Tun is on Thursday 7th. Anyone feel like combining these two events by meeting up at Olympia at 2pm or so for a wander round the beerfest followed (if you can face the prospect of more beer) by the Tun? I know this is nearly a month away, but I thought it best to give people time to take an afternoon off (and probably the following morning...)

What is this Tun of which you speak?

Sounds like a damn fine idea!

The monthly pub-meet for London area SF fans, which has been running in some form or other since at least the 1940s. Currently on the first Thursday of the month at the Barley Mow near Smithfield Market, and frequented by many local LJers.

Absolutely not, it's open to anyone.

I'm not sure what one would be a 'member' of! SF fandom is one of those things where if you know enough people in it to ask how you join, you're probably already in. Apparently there was a time when a log was kept of who came along, but this was more to do with reconding visits by famous fans than any sort of formal membership.

People usually start ariving not long after 6, and there's usually a good crowd by 7.30. We meet in the upstairs bar (if it says 'private function, that's us) and there is food available.
