We've got a large flowerpot on our patio, full of pansies (except when the bunnies eat them). Just now [livejournal.com profile] bugshaw noticed a squirrel playing around by it; on closer inspection, it was avidly licking the side of the pot:

Presumably it was after the green mould/algae that covers most stuff left out in the garden for long enough. But it must have found it very tasty, as it was licking away with a rapt attention that made me wonder if the pot was loaded with sugar, or perhaps whatever the squirrel equivalent of catnip is.

It might also have been after salt - there seems to be a white encrustation as well as green, and this might be salts leaching out of the pot.

...which makes me wonder if pot is legal for squirrels...

My indoor teraccota plant pots leach salts when watered, so I expect its after that.
