Many happy returns (although I'm not sure what it is that is meant to be being returned, or who is meant to be doing the returning...)

It will be Me that is returning if you do not immediately "remember" that it is also the day I chose to be Mine!

I have always associated 'Many Happy Returns' with a uniquely English festival: Boxing Day, at Marks & Spencers.

I always took the phrase to mean "This day of your birth, may it come around many more times in an ejoyable fashion!" I was led to this conclusion by seeing it sometimes extended to "many happy returns of the day".

And yeah, happy birthday Bug!

That was my conclusion, for much the same reasons. Happy birthday, Bug!
