My burgeoning career as an amateur Parliamentary Draftsman continues! Last night the second amendment that I wrote for the Open Rights Group to submit for the House of Lords Committee Stage of the Digital Economy Bill got debated too. It's Amendment 129, aimed at providing recourse for groundless threats of copyright infringement; the report starts here and goes on to the next page.

Gasp as Lord Lucas takes advantage of Parliamentary Privilege to put the boot into file-sharing ambulance chasers ACS Law!

Swoon as the Earl of Erroll punches holes in the Government's whole digital copyright enforcement strategy!

Wince as poor benighted Lord Young flim-flams desperately in response!

Of course the Amendment was eventually withdrawn because it is customary that Opposition Amendments in the House of Lords are not pushed to a vote - if there is real support for one, then the Government will introduce it instead (which has happened with ORG's amendment to constrain Mandy's Clause 11 provision that would have allowed him to rewrite copyright law by ministerial diktat).

But in generating this debate it did its job, and I am am Well Chuffed.

This is all very impressive. Does it go on your CV?

I'm hoping not to need my CV for a while but yes, it already contains reference to the work I've been doing for ORG in relation first to the Telecoms Package and now the DEB.
