The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain have a Prom Concert on Tuesday night. It's quite late - 10 until 11 - and there aren't any decent paid tickets left. So I'm inclined to turn up for an on-the-night standing ticket. These apparently go on sale for £5 an hour before the concert starts; does anyone have an idea of how long before that I should realistically arrive to be sure of getting one?

And is anyone else interested in coming?

I'm a reasonably regular prommer and a UOGB fan, though sadly I can't make that concert. I'd think that turning up at 8/8.30ish would get you admission - and you're far more likely to get a place if you go Gallery rather than Arena promming.

I booked tickets a few months ago when I saw the schedule, as I'm a big UOGB fan.

As for promming, I'd also say get there for about 8, especially if the weather's good; the Ukulele Orchestra are rather popular, even if late proms are usually less well attended.

Would love to, but am stuck on a different continent.

What does "prom" mean in this context? Here it is a springtime dance for which the high school kids dress up.

Short for Promenade concerts, which while these were originally done outdoors, in parks, etc., these days the term is mostly associated with the series of concerts founded by Henry Wood and mostly performed at the Royal Albert Hall, and now called the BBC Proms.

I'd love to go, but I think the late finish would mean missing my last train home to Wokingham.

Those late night proms don't tend to sell out. I'd be surprised if you failed to get a ticket if you turned up at 9.30pm, when the doors open. On the other hand, there's a school of thought that you want to be in the front five rows, in which case you'll need to get there earlier.
