True, the plot seems fairly predictable (although we might hope for some sort of twist). But the general hamming-up and look-we're-being-all-adult gurning seems to have been chucked out the window.
And actually give it better than half given what we've seen so far. It's been quite a shock. Although the 456 does look like it's made of triffid-leftovers. Perhaps the whole thing will become an homage to Wyndham ;@)
Aah, but the TBO doesn't operate until the last 10 minutes of a single episode story, which I guess means we shouldn't expect it until half way through Friday night (though UNIT's behaviour did have me shouting BOLLOCKS at the telly this evening).
Yes, I am also pleasantly surprised, in that I am not only tolerating it as a background presence but actually rather enjoying what is going on. Mind you, I do like the bits with Peter Capaldi more than any of the bits with the actual Torchwood team.
Mixed feelings chez nous. M (12) is totally swept up, I think it's patchy, but the good patches are worth stopping shovelling dinner in face for. N was unimpressed and left to play some PC war game. Maybe he'll be back if they bbq some of their *gift* or come down in breathing apparatus, War of the Worlds stylie, and start door-to-door slaughter in Rose Tyler's high density housing 'hood.
