Huxleyed: To have died with a degree of fame or notoriety that would have guaranteed extensive media coverage, save for the death of someone even more famous or notorious immediately afterwards. From Aldous Huxley, who died an hour before President Kennedy was assassinated. Usage: "Farrah Fawcett was completely Huxleyed by Michael Jackson."

Neat.

I'm not sure Fawcett would have had much more coverage than she'd already got, to be honest, but if she would have, yes, it'll be totally lost in the glare.

I like. :-)

(Mother Theresa/Diana, Princess of Wales being another such combination?)

Or CS Lewis and Kennedy - that was a busy couple of days. (Which also, of course, saw the first broadcast of Doctor Who.)

So really we need to construct a conspiracy theory involving Huxley, Lewis, the Kennedy assassination, and Doctor Who.

Tricky.

There's a time machine involved, so not insuperable.

Already been done, although I don't think Huxley or Lewis were involved.

As one of my colleagues suggested at coffee - maybe it was a suicide pact...

Mel Blanc was Huxleyed by Laurence Olivier too.

Nice coinage! We were talking about the very thing at work this morning. I'd imagined Farah Fawcett (postumously, of course!) thinking: 'Look at that, the first decent publicity I've had for twenty-plus years and what happens: Michael Jackson f*&%^%&^ dies!'

At the Yokohama Worldcon, a number of us went on the Michael Jackson Memorial Pubcrawl.

It looks like we may need to do so again in a month or so's time.

Splendid, I am up for a Dr Who episode featuring the great Huxley/Lewis/Kennedy conspiracy.

Rudyard Kipling died two days before King George V in 1936. The press was full of bulletins about the King's failing health and so Kipling's passing was not regarded as newsworthy as it would have been in other circumstances.
