Looking for evidence of joined-up local government

I've just filled in the 'report a missed recycling collection' form on Tower Hamlets Council web site to politely enquire:

(a) if the fact we haven't had any rubbish or recycling collection for a fortnight is because of the massive hole in the road?

(b) if so, and given that this looks to be going on for some time, is there a Plan B for collecting our rubbish and recycling?

You might want to take a look at FixMyStreet - another fine tool for navigating the shoals of government from the folks at MySociety...

There's even a FixMyStreet iPhone app that uses the camera and GPS...

Yes, that looks like a good service.

I was late to work at Heathrow but my car broke down, and I tried to use the phone on a police box, but I couldn't get the phone to work (and have I got a story to tell you about that!) and then my Aunt Vanessa got shrunk to the size of a doll. -- T. Jovanka

Ah, yes, I f-locked that post because it was a view from my flat and thus implicitly gave away my address (which I try not to do in unlocked posts.)

But it shows my road (not very long, but not very wide either) with a truly enormous bit of excavation that has blocked some 20 metres of the middle of it. As a result what is normally a road you can drive a refuse lorry along is now two short dead ends with no space to turn one around.
