Facebook group/network woes
Jun. 14th, 2008 12:14 amA few weeks ago I created a Facebook group for the members of my photography course. It's a closed (invite-only) group, and since all the course members are in London I affiliated it to the London network. However, one of the course members hasn't been able to join, and I've been troubleshooting the problem.
It seems that Facebook management has just removed the network aspect of the system (odd, as I thought it once one of the key elements of it). The upshot of this seems to be that anyone who was not already a member of the London network cannot now join it and so cannot join the course group. Presumably this applies to any network-affiliated group; no new Facebook members, or members not jointed to the appropriate network, will be able to join such groups from now on. And although networks have been removed, you can't remove the network affiliation from existing groups, so this problem can't be fixed just by changing the group settings.
Somebody at Facebook didn't think this through, did they?
