Thanks to everyone who has helped with the lists of British sf and fantasy writers for 1958 and 2008. I now have plenty of names; indeed, it turns out I have rather too many for exactly what I wanted to do with them.

The Not-So-Sekrit-Project is for SFF to give the BSFA a 50th Birthday cake for the Joint AGM Event, and since getting one big cake to Holborn seemed awkward, I had the idea of getting two smaller ones. It seemed obvious that one should relate to 1958, and the other 2008; from there, I thought it would be nice if each one was decorated with the names of contemporary writers. I discussed this plan with my confectionary consultant (my mother, who used to do cakes semi-professionally) and she agreed that she could do this, but having gone back to her again and checked how many names it's reasonable to do per cake, it looks like only fifteen or so from each list are actually going to get committed to icing.

Rather than try to pick the Top Fifteen from each list, I'll probably give her the first fifteen alphabetically and then do a placard for each cake giving the full list. If nothing else, the fact that the 1958 cake will get into the H's whilst the 2008 list will barely get into the C's ought to make a nice point.

So, come along to Conway Hall on June 7th. There will be cake...

Just a thought, but if you went for individual fairy cakes, a different name could be iced on each one.

It's a time, not size, issue - doing text in icing is slow work.
