A post by [livejournal.com profile] seph_hazard pointed me at [livejournal.com profile] cuteoverload, which I'd hitherto managed to escape. Goodness, there is indeed an awful lot of cute there. There's also this:

As someone who has flown light aircraft and spent many years having Flight Safety hammered into me, I have to say I'm not entirely comfortable with someone flying around with the mother of all Loose Cockpit Articles on the coaming. And given how loud it is inside one of these (I've always flown with ear defenders or a helmet) I'd worry about the poor thing's hearing. But... it's still awfully cute, and prompts a whole load of aviation gags. I mean, I'd always wondered why they call it a Cat 1 instrument landing system...

(Actually, I think this is the prototype tuna-fuelled Artificial Horizon. After all, have you ever tried turning a cat upside down against its will? With one of these about, you always know which way is up!)

Oh my god! It's Flyball.

I didn't realise at first but that cockpit is open to to the air!

Are you sure? There's definitely a windscreen, you can see the chips and dirt on it and indeed the cat's reflection as the plane comes in to land. Very few post-WW2 small aircraft have open cockpits - it's far too cold and wet up there!

He has a boat too, you can watch him and Iris chugging gently along on their way up the Pacific Northwest coast.

That is an extremely cool cat; I doubt I could do that with one of ours without something terrible happening. Bandit would have reprogrammed the flight instruments, Snufkin would have just broken something, and Minnow would cause immense sagging.

I kept expecting the Paw of Command to swat the pilot for some imagin'd misdemeanour. Or to demand strokes. What a well-behaved kitty! Would not fancy trying this with mine.

Hmm - still there a moment ago for me.

Gulp!

It gives me flashbacks to the time the cat got out of the basket while we were driving to the vets.

It *braces for landing*! But yeah, you can make kittens do things that would turn adult cats into thousand-paws clawballs. This somewhat takes the biscuit though. I have tried driving with a kitten in the car, and the moment of total terror comes when they try to see what's under the pedals.

DFC = Distinguished Flying Cat?

The pilot must have been Biggles as this was obviously Ginger.
