Dear Virgin,

Do you not understand the concept of 'agency'? I am acting on behalf of my landlady who has authorised me to use her Virgin account and make payments. My bank says you are taking my money so why are you (a) claiming the account is massively in arrears, and (b) refusing to talk to me about it?

Yours, very annoyed,

MC

They recently cut me off for non payment despite the fact that I was receiving paper statements saying that I was in credit.

They were sending me second electronic statements for just the internet to an email address I have never used.

*sigh*

I now have two internet connections into the house - Be and Virgin. Once Be proves to be ok I'll bin the Virgin one.

PS NEVER EVER DO THIS. BIG COMPANIES DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

I paid the water bill for my house for something like a year and a half before Thames Water noticed that actually the account was in Julie's name. They refused to talk to me about payments made out of my account despite the fact that it was my house. They refused to even refund the erroneous payments dspite it being part of the Direct Debit guarantee. End result - I am 400 out of pocket as I had to pay the bill twice.

Sorry? What?

You paid them £400 into the account -

- for a total bill of £400.

And they wanted it again and refused to give you the £400 back.

And you did not... go to citizens advice, start a small claims action, write lots and lots of really nasty letters to there chief executive, write to watch dog, burn there house down..... you know the normal stuff....

Sometimes you pick your battles. Sometimes you can't manage the fight. This what I found when dealing with Inland Revenue. I may disagree with their valuation but the cost of getting evidence for my position would outweigh the £400 they wanted.

correct. I did not.

They did however agree to give the money back to my ex which seemed like a reasonable solution at the time.

I was not in a fit state to start a small claims action.

Ok that makes even less sense.

Your house

Her account

You pay £400

There still demanding £400

They give £400 back to her and demand £400 from you. Clearly there was £400 linked to that account.....

That makes no sense what so ever.....

their actions make no sense unless they strictly adhere to a false understanding of the Data Protection act: Where the person paying the bill is not necessarily the same person who is named on the bill they cant get any access to the account. This is why I brought it up since it seemed to be the same problem that MajorClanger was facing.

Oh for goodness sake. Customer Service people are terrible at this nonsense. Much easier to terminate the service and restart under a different name.

[livejournal.com profile] surliminal is understandably not thrilled at the prospect of losing her telephone number.

What they want you to do is to transfer the account (for a £25 fee once you fill in a form, which they'll never bloody send you) and lock yourselves in to a 12 month contract, and then transfer it all back again (for another £25 and with another form that won't ever arrive).

I tried to transfer the cable from my name to Matthew & Matthew's when I moved out, but never managed to get it to happen.

They don't understand the concept of joint living arrangements, either. The cable is in John's name, although the money for it actually comes out of my bank account. They won't let us have a joint account for it, which means if it goes wrong and I ring up, they won't actually talk to me as I am not the account holder. If I get a random bloke to ring up and pretend to be John, though, they will tell him how to fix it.

it is "Data Protection" gone mad. lots of companies do it without actualy having a clue about good security or data privacy practices.
