I've been looking for a pub to act as the host venue for our quiz team. The main requirements are:

- Room big enough for a table with four people seated each side.
- Free alternate Tuesday evenings.
- Does decent beer.
- Can lay on a platter of food for competitors at reasonable cost.
- Ideally, doesn't charge for room.

I've found a suitable pub but the downstairs main bar has TV screens and the online reviews suggest that it can get a bit rowdy on match nights. Here I show my near-complete ignorance of football: are there ever major televised football league matches on Tuesdays?

(I'd look elsewhere, but of all the pubs I looked at it had by far the best function room - medium-sized, free, and completely separate from the bar. Several pubs that advertised as having function space actually meant that they could reserve a table, which is no good for a team-v-team quiz.)

Yesterday was, I think, tolerably successful.

It didn't look like it would start that way, mind you. My trip to Ikea was rather messed up by finding that I'd missed seeing that there were no trains from Stratford to Tottenham Hale, so I ended up taking the Central Line back to Liverpool St, the train up to Seven Sisters, and then the Victoria Line to TH in order to get the bus. Having got to Ikea, I went throught the rigamarole of:

- Find the storage units I was interested in.
- Decide that I didn't actually like them.
- Find others that were far more to my liking.
- Note down all the part numbers and warehouse locations.
- Go to warehouse and find the main unit is out of stock.

Oh well, at least I now know what I want and can order it online.

The bus trip over to the cluster of pubs I wanted to scout out for quiz-team venues took me past [livejournal.com profile] fjm's, so not having seen her for a month I popped in for a chat. Then it was around various pubs near Islington - see my earlier post - before taking yet another bus up to the Pembury Tavern, where I met up with [livejournal.com profile] purplecthulhu, [livejournal.com profile] annafdd, [livejournal.com profile] alexmc and lots of others whose LJ names I have of course forgotten in a haze of Milton Sparta...

I suspect a plot of my perambulations yesterday would look like someone let a very drunk spider loose on a map of NE London.
