Narrative Imperative Strikes Again

major_clangerTerry Pratchett has this great idea in the Discworld books of 'narrative imperative' - certain things have to happen in a particular way, 'cos that's how the story works.
Glad to see it works here, too. As the BBC report, the Flying Squad today foiled an attempted bullion robbery carried out by a gang of villains in, of course, a white Transit.
There's no report that the head copper screeched onto the scene in a Granada and yelled "You're nicked!", but I suppose you can't have everything.
