Friday [livejournal.com profile] bugshaw came to visit me for a change this weekend, so instead of a long trip round the M25 it was up to Farnham station to meet her instead. Then off via taxi to the local Good Pub for dinner with Bob the American (one of my work colleagues) and his wife. A fun but rather expensive evening was had, seeing as how the Red Lion has changed hands recently and the new owners are well into Posh Cuisine. It will be interesting to see how long the new menu lasts in rural Hampshire...

Saturday continued to be wet but we braved a shopping trip to Guildford to scout out miscellaneous bits of furniture for new house. Discover that Habitat sell a random bit of 'house decoration' that comprises a couple of dozen fluffy brown pom-poms strung out on a bit of black elastic cord. It looks like nothing so much as a Tribble-hunter's trophy necklace. After popping into Cancom to get a quote for an iBook with all the trimmings it was over to Tonbridge for a most pleasant afternoon and evening with [livejournal.com profile] swisstone and [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray and friends (or indeed in most cases Friends).

Sunday it continued to piss down, so we shelved the plan for a scenic country walk and instead went to the surprisingly non-crap new mall at Basingstoke to see Matrix Revolutions at the cinema there. The film was better than we expected (although still very flawed), the nearby Indian buffet was very good, and we even got some more useful shopping done before a Car Park Experience From Hell involving an exit barrier that refused to believe I'd paid... Having eventually emerged, we popped into my work site on the way home for [livejournal.com profile] bugshaw to meet my ducks. She was suitably amused.

[livejournal.com profile] bugshaw has now safely returned to Cambridge (despite best efforts of ill-pulicised rail maintenance) and I'm about to get my toothbrush packed for a two-day trip to London to attend a satcoms conference. See you all soon...

Err, just a minute: didn't Bugshaw move to Cambridge because that's where you were stationed? Have I missed a crucial new development in the Major Bugshaw Clanger soap opera plot?

It would seem so. I found out about ten months ago that I was going to be posted down to Bordon in Hampshire. [livejournal.com profile] bugshaw and I lived nearby in Alton for six months in 1997, the last time I worked here, and she didn't fancy coming back - it's miles from (a) her current job, (b) any good site for future jobs, and (c) most of our friends. As such we decided that as the opportunity had finally arisen for us to buy a house we would do so somewhere that didn't have these problems, and that turned out to be Cambridge. I know work and live in Hampshire during the week and commute back home at weekends; the intention is that my next posting will be within daily travelling distance of home.

I hope that's clearer now!
