A few years ago I was in the Tun talking to Alex Stewart - one-time fan, short-story author and occasional scriptwriter for Bugs. He'd recently been to another hard day bouncing plot ideas off Brian Clemens and was expounding on the latest Really Naff Crime Series idea that was doing the rounds of the production companies. "It's called Rosemary and Thyme, and will be about these two daft old biddies who solve murders in between the gardening. I can just see June Whitfield starring and I have this dreadful suspicion the theme tune will be a version of 'In An English Country Garden' arranged to sound a bit creepy at the end."

After shuddering at this awful vision over our beers we returned to discussing the hazards of trying to flog second-hand plots ripped off from The Professionals to, er, Brian Clemens. And no sign of Rosemary and Thyme ever emerged, so I assumed that either Alex had been having his leg pulled or the whole concept had gone into Development Hell and died.

Until today, when driving along the North Circular I saw an enormous billboard of a crime-scene body outline painted on a nicely manicured lawn, with the strapline "GARDENING CAN BE MURDER - Rosemary and Thyme coming soon from Carlton." Apparently it stars Felicity Kendal rather than June Whitfield, and no word on the theme tune yet, but it look like Alex was right...
