World Domination Plan, Phase #17...
Mar. 10th, 2003 10:23 pmIn the latest stage of my sordid progress around the fringes of science-fictional respectability, I was elected on Saturday as the new Chair of the Science Fiction Foundation.
I have a hard act to follow, but don't actually have to follow all that much of it. Our previous Chair was actually Chair, Events Co-ordinator and (for much of the last two years) editor of Foundation, so although she very visibly did an awful lot I'm only taking on about a third of her actual workload. The actual duties of Chair are:
...most of which I think I can manage. (The first point is not a joke. One of our long-standing trustees is sure that some committee meetings from the 1970s are still in progress.) My first job is to run the AGM on 5th April, taking place as part of our joint event with those very nice people at the British Science Fiction Association...

The actual duties of Chair are:
- Keep committee meetings shorter than 72 hours
- Make sure committee members neither totally neglect their jobs or work themselves senseless
- Steer the Foundation in a vaguely coherent (and financially sound) direction
