Feb. 17th, 2003 11:23 pm...No thanks to Freeserve, who have been unavailable all evening. I haven't even been getting an engaged tone; my modem was dialing in properly but the login wasn't working. (Not failing, just freezing up.)
Sigh... We went over to Freeserve Anytime about eight months ago, because we can't get ADSL out here in the sticks and we didn't want to pay through the nose for LiveJournal. I noticed straight away that connections were a little flakier than I'd been used to on the CIX IP dial-in, but it wasn't so bad that I wanted to go back, especially as we were saving a fair amount of money.
But more and more often we've had long periods of poor service. Usually you can get a connection, but during peak evening hours it runs at a speed that would have shamed a PRESTEL terminal. Tonight though, not even that.
So, what do we do? Stay with Freeserve and hope it gets better? Move to Cambridge and get broadband? (Well, yes, we do want to do that, for lots more reasons than just ADSL.) Log on to LJ using IP Over Carrier Pigeon?
