Major Clanger Goes To Washington

There should be a new mood icon, 'packing', showing the hamster/star/whatever of your choice surrounded by lots of bags and bits of underwear.
Off to Washington tomorrow, for several hectic days of visits to assorted acronymic government agencies, followed by a couple of days in Tampa to warm up a bit (and do a bit more work for HMG). I think I've remembered everything I need...
- Books for flight. In case the in-flight movies are too boring. Mind you, I'll be very surprised if BA aren't showing LOTR:TTT which ought to get me half way across the Atlantic by itself.
- Driving Licence. Yes, both my cow-orkers should have theirs, but I'm the only one who's driven in the USA in the last few years so I probably ought to be the one to drive from Dulles to our hotel. So no copious booze on the way out for me.
- NATO Travel Order. No, nobody in the military knows what one of these is actually for, but we're supposed to get one for duty trips abroad. I think somebody printed 10 million by accident once and we have to use them up.
- Medical Cover Letter. Which says, to paraphrase slightly, "Major Clanger is in the USA on HM Government Business. If he gets run over by a bus and ends up in ER, the resulting stupendous bill should not be deducted from his credit card but should instead be sent to Mr G Brown, c/o The British Embassy, Washington."
- Handy Guide To Washington. So that I can find the really good bar with 500 bottled beers that I was taken to a couple of years ago.
And enough underpants. But you probably trusted me to remember that.
Not sure if I'll be able to post to LJ whilst away (although I'm sure there'll be an internet cafe not too far from where we'll be). If not, see you all in a week or so...

Date: 2003-01-12 02:10 pm (UTC)Actually, it has proved useful - it got us through immigration in about a quarter of the normal time as it meant we were told to stand in the fast-moving 'US citizens' queue instead of the long and slow 'dubious foreigners' line.
