The observant will note a cake. This is not in a jar, because that would be silly. attimes_bracing had a discount bulk deal on plums, and there were some left.

When I priced the plums for one quantity of jam from Waitrose, they came to £12.00. On Thursday I was walking past the fruit market and was offered a box of plums for £4.00. I didn't weigh them despite carrying them home. When it came time to make the jam, there was enough for two quantities of jam and twelve for a plum tart and about five left over. About 4pm on a Thursday is prime bargaining time.

Are you sure you have enough preserves there? I'm worried you'll run short.

The fruit on Walthamstow market is so cheap that, apart from strawberries, the main expense for me in jam-making is the sugar.

Entirely separately, did I see a box of figs in the 'before' picture? If so, what did you do with them? I bought 24 figs for £2 on the market on Friday, very ripe; the Plokta cabal ate them all up.

The box was plums I'm afraid. I find figs fickle. I did think about Fig and Vanilla jam but when given a list of five things from The Hallowed Preserving Book - Husband picked three and the Fig and Vanilla bit the dust.
