I've been having one or two problems with the washer/dryer in my Birmingham flat, so had cause to remove the water filter to check it. I found an errant collar stiffener, but I have to say that I was rather stunned by the design of the filter. I mean, if form follows function, what on earth is this bit of plastic meant to be doing?

Do a Google image search on its part number, 1240088029. The mind boggles...

I've had dealings with one of those a few times before now. I find it's quite a tricky twist+push action to insert it correctly.

Our old washing machine had one like that. It always took a lot more screwing than it should to get it to fit snugly.

I've seen a lot of similar items. Let's just leave it at that, shall we.

I guess if you want to insert something horizontally so that it ends up vertical, then there's a limited number of shapes it can be...

At least yours has an accessible filter. Some Hotpoint models don't any more, any loose coins etc. end up blocking the pump.

In the unlikely event that you are arrested and hauled up before the magistrates, you can plead that you were a victim of pump and circumstance.

And now I am earwormed by Elgar, played by washing machines.
