PSA: OS X Lion 10.7.2 upgrade borking MacBooks?

darth_hamster called earlier to say our nightly Skype was off because her MacBook Pro was very, very dead after yesterday's software update (stuck on boot). Searching indicates that it's not the iOS 5 update causing problems but rather the 10.7.2 update to OS X Lion that seems to be a problem. From what I've found online it's only MacBooks that are affected - my iMac upgraded fine - but she's now in the middle of a full backup from Time Machine. (The problem was bad enough it wouldn't even allow a re-install of the OS from the restore disc.)

Ouch! I'll be less brave about upgrading work's Macs in future; 10.7.2 went on the experimental 10.7 iMac today.

My Macbook Air sailed through, my Mac Pro stuck on boot. I turned it off and on again, and thankfully it rebooted fine.

My iPhone got stuck in a Restore/Can't restore mode, and then ate all its music. All a bit of a shambles.

Ditto; both Airbooks (13" and 11" circa December 2010) sailed through fine; iPad 2 and iPhone 4 took iOS 5 okay, after some retries with the overloaded authentication servers at Apple.

Disk space is a major issue on iOS as iTunes tries to back up the device before upgrading -- backing up a 64Gb iPad to a laptop with an SSD with only 20Gb free is not going to end well.

I can see that might not go smoothly. My Mac Pro has 2Tb of disk space, and my Macbook Air has a 128Gb SSD, which is rather nice. (I bought it from a friend who fitted it himself, and it goes like a train).
