(I hated The Sparrow, couldn't finish it. None of the Jesuits in the book had a sense of humor or the ability to laugh at themselves... whereas in fact that's a talent which one has an opportunity to exercise every day of one's life as a Jesuit.

Now, if you want a realistic novel about the life of a priest, try The Apocalypse Door by James D MacDonald!

Oh me too. I hated it so much. I've rarely seen a book fail so badly at conveying the way people are -- not just the Jesuits, none of the human characters act the way people act.

How about A Case for Conscience?

It would in fact be possible to put together quite a nice Jesuits in Space panel.
