xkcd is rarely less than good but every few weeks Randall Munroe absolutely excels himself. He's done it again with his movie narrative charts (click for large version):



Lord of the Rings is superb, although as per the title it uses the movie trilogy narrative. Twelve Angry Men is sublime. And Primer massively understates matters...

I think he's been reading Tufte on Minard.

The sad thing is that I already had a segment of the LotR diagram on my office whiteboard, from when I was trying to get one of my third years to do a project on narrative visualisation.
