Well, when I got back from a pleasant evening out at
ladymoonray's cocktail meetup I found that I could finally get through to iTunes and revalidate my iPhone upgrade. After all the hassle the upgrade itself went very smoothly, although for some reason it insisted on resetting the time zone to Cupertino. So far I've not had much of a chance to exercise the new functionality, but of the apps I've installed Facebook seems to work well (far more convenient than trying to read it via the browser) whilst PhoneSaber is just very, very silly...
What is alarming though is how disconcerting it is to be without a mobile phone or, indeed, web, email and SMS access for several hours. I've grown used to walking around town with an instant map, guidebook and message service, and it's very noticeable when it's not there. I seem to distantly recall a time when the only phone I had was the one on the table at home. How long ago that seems.
