I'm not saying I haven't been upset enough with editors to want to write slightly snitty letters: for example when I hear nothing for months, send a query, hear nothing, send another query, get a note saying they're a bit behind, wait some more, query again, get another note saying yes, they should get to mine any day, wait, query, then get an email saying they have no record of my story.

But no matter how annoyed I might get in private, any written response will be polite. It has to be. Those are the rules.
