Around Edinburgh's Open Doors
Oct. 1st, 2007 08:43 amSaturday was the annual Doors Open Day in Edinburgh, where you could look around a range of buildings either not normally open to the public or which had special events and tours running. I didn't take photos everywhere - some of the sites were houses or offices where it wasn't appropriate - but here's a selection from a day walking around Edinburgh.

It's an attempt to get around the limitation of cameras - especially digital cameras - that they find it difficult to record detail in both very light and very dark parts of the same picture. On an overcase day like Saturday, a picture of a shaded area like Old College quad will tend to have all the contrast in the sky burned out. An HDR image will get around this, but as you say it can end up looking rather artificial. But experimenting is fun, and Old College is nothing if not photogenic.

Date: 2007-10-01 03:27 pm (UTC)A fortnight after London Open House and a week after Heritage Open Days in the rest of the country. Is this particular to Edinburgh, or has Scotland as a whole adopted a different timetable for this?
