I have a twenty-minute walk to and from college, and plan to use the gym on a regular and varied enough basis that I'll often want 'something interesting to listen to' as distinct to just 'something loud and fast to run to'. I also have - or will have, when it gets back from the Hospital for Sick Apple Gadgets - an iPod.

So, what podcasts should I be listening to?

I'm very keen on the Word magazine podcast - ~40mins of chat each week about music and other media. Often very funny. Accessible via iTunes or their Facebook group.

See what radio 4 has on offer. I know they do a lot of their current affairs as podcasts.

This Week in Tech is usually entertaining.

If you want plain weird, SciFi Sofa is occasionally ok(ish).

I also find some of the Radio 4 digests to be well done.

If you like sport, then the podcast of Radio 5's "Fighting Talk" game show from Saturday mornings is hysterically funny. If you don't "do" sport, then avoid at all costs as you'll hate it.

Also thought you should know that the Apple Store has just opened, here in Buchanan Street, Glasgow, and just a short hop from Queen Street train station. They have a dedicated tech service in-store, so it might save you some time instead of having to send your doda to 'hospital'!

I've been listening to the (Australian) Radio National podcasts. I'm currently very much enjoying a couple of hour-long shows on the cultural significance of the Australian desert.

You'd probably enjoy The Science Show.
