In all my time in Iraq, nobody I knew died or was injured.

I have just found out that one of my colleagues was killed on Tuesday in a road accident on-Base at Basra.

Nick arrived about three weeks before I left. He must have been due to come home later this month.

Will there be an enquiry to determined whether it was avoidable, or a true accident?

There will almost certainly be an inquiry. I'll see if I can find out some more details, but it sounds as if he was hit by one of the contractor-operated buses that provide a shuttle service around Basra Air Station. However, until I know more I'd just be speculating.
