[livejournal.com profile] fjm has just pointed me at this job advert from the National Space Centre.

It looks interesting, although having been round the NSC a few years ago I would be sorely tempted to add something to the job spec about ensuring that the science element of the education programme was both rigourous and relevant. (My take on it - their planetarium show in particular - was that there was a lot of GoshWow and not that much actual education. But then I'm an old-fashioned fart.)

Let's hear it for old-fashioned farts. What they don't understand, won't bother them...

You are not an old-fashioned fart: you are a serious and committed person who is worried about the dumbing down of education and concerned about the future of the younger generation.

And the last two or three planetarium shows I have seen (Paris and New York spring to mind) were, I thought, appalling travesties of what could and should be done, and little better than slide-shows, which used hardly none of the technology of which a planetarium was capable of.

My God! Maybe _I'm_ an old fart too!
