Up the Pile of Work
Feb. 9th, 2007 01:35 pmThis is definitely one of those 'sorting out' days; mind you, so have the last couple. I've got something like six months' worth of admin to catch up on, in that not only was I away from late September but I was busy with the last Worldcon and then pre-deployment training from pretty much mid-August onwards.
For that matter, some stuff started slipping a year ago, when I was in the throes of helping to run Eastercon. In particular, my email organisation went for a Burton. I try to have a hierarchy of folders and sub-folders to store emails in; eg /Foundation, /Foundation/Books, /Foundation/Clarke, /Foundation/Liverpool etc, as well as an 'Action' folder (do this stuff!), a 'Pending' folder (do when it becomes important) and an 'Awaiting Reply' folder (someone is due to be getting back to me on this). This had all rather fallen by the wayside and until this morning I had an inbox with 2500 assorted emails. OK, the very nice search features of Mac Mail meant that this was still just about manageable, but I wanted to get the electronic equivalent of a mountain of paperwork sorted out. It's now all done, after a session slogging through far too many Eastercon emails; yes, I've now remembered why I promised to take a long time off conrunning...

bugshaw finally got a diagnosis of our Leaky Ceiling problem and a promise of a fix. Well, the builders turned up on Wednesday and did a load of work on the balcony with a promise to return the following day "unless it snows" (problems applying the proper coating, apparently). So we had them back again today, and they'll be finishing off early next week. In the mean time they noticed various cracks and poor joins in the paint on the stairwell walls, so have redone much of that. We also no longer have a hole in the living-room ceiling.
