Glasses, Part 2
Jun. 18th, 2011 04:01 pmI posted last month about getting my first pair of reading specs. I was certainly very impressed with how well I could read close wearing them, but I did find that computer screens were a little out of focus, which was frustrating as I'd supposedly been set up for working at a computer. In the end I went back to Vision Express and explained the problem. At first the assistant suggested I just needed to get used to them, but then she checked the prescription in their database with the one my glasses had been made to... and her face visibly fell. I was whisked back to see an optician, who quickly confirmed that my glasses had not been made to the specification they should have been and that I needed a considerably weaker mid-distance element. As I was having the revised pair prepared the assistant quietly suggested that in future I make sure whoever was translating the prescription into glasses was an opthalmic technician (like she was) rather than basic sales staff...
So, I now have new lenses, and whilst the near distance for reading isn't quite as close (but I don't really need to be able to read at four inches!) I can now comfortably read out to arm's length, which is more than enough even for working at my 27" iMac.
