Quick Update
Jan. 19th, 2010 02:58 pmLots going on, alas this means not really enough time to write about them. Indeed, am having to miss quizzing this evening because other commitments are eating my life. But in short:
Work is going well; I've just had my first quarterly review and everyone is happy. At the moment a lot of it is still research and categorisation rather than Brilliant Legal Thinking but this should start to change soon. I'm likely to end my year at QMUL as lead author on one paper and co-author on at least two others.
Part-Time Teaching started yesterday at Exeter. It went well, with the students (a) not falling asleep, (b) laughing at most of my jokes and (c) asking some intelligent questions. But ten weeks of this is going to be hard work, both in terms of preparation time (one of the reasons I am so busy) and travel.
Pro Bono work for ORG continues; the House of Lords is now debating amendments to the Digital Economy Bill, including the ones we at ORG put forward. One of mine actually got debated last night! Amendment 113, bottom part of this page. Still croggled that Lords and Ministers stood up in Parliament and argued about words I personally wrote. Yes, it got withdrawn, but it did its job - HMG conceded that infringement reports won't be shielded from disclosure requests, and helpfully claimed that file-sharing is not serious criminal activity. We will remind them of this the next time they pretend it is.
