My effete southern prejudices are being firmly challenged this morning; after a weekend of (mostly) sunshine up in Northumberland, I'm now back down in the pouring rain of London.

More on the weekend later, but for now I'll just say that I had a very pleasant escape from work to beautiful countryside and fascinating archaeology. Thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] swisstone for organising it, and I'm only sorry that pressure of other commitments meant that I had to miss the first and last day of the full trip. On the other hand, this only makes it more likely that I'll come back.

Less good bits: an annoyingly twinge-prone back on the Sunday and yesterday, although this didn't limit me too much. But, more core-strengthening exercise indicated, I think. Also, a pretty dreadful trip back, owing to Virgin Rail not running any services south from Carlisle until nearly 1pm, meaning that the train was so overcrowded that it had to run at reduced speed for safety reasons, making the trip even longer. The final straw was sitting outside Euston for half an hour (when we were already late in) because of a trespasser on the line. I leave the mood of my fellow passengers to your imagination.
