Major Job Activity this morning was chairing a meeting to review the successful bidder's plans to replace part of our air conditioning plant. I'd noticed that the company was called ACAME, and that their engineer was wearing a polo shirt with their logo and 'Air Conditioning Mechanical and Electrical' embroidered on it.
"So," I said after the meeting, "what does the middle 'A' stand for?"
"Er, nothing. We added it because we registered the full name and then realised that it abbreviated to ACME..."
Not, he went on to add, that that has done anything to stop the jokes. But apparently people do remember them, so they've decided to stick with the name!
