Minutes of Early Royal Society minutes found in cupboard, to be sold at auction.

I wonder if Neal Stephenson might be interested in buying them? Mind you, he probably wishes they'd come to light before he'd written The Baroque Cycle.

I always wonder at national institutions being so desperate to spend money on such things (thankfully, the Royal Society has chosen not to do so themselves). As long as the person who does by them is willing to allow them to make a xerox (which is not guaranteed, but you'd think they'd help in this kind of case), then they would have all they need for research purposes.

Originals are just for collectors who want the kudos of being able to say they own them.

Fascinating to learn about Hooke's watch.

If they are the official minutes of the Royal Society, can't they claim them as their property? Presumably they didn't sell them, so they must have been borrowed or stolen, and therefore still owned by the RS. Or is there a limit on recovery of stolen property?
