... and today's featured site is The world's flags given letter grades. I particularly like the little icons accompanying the alphabetic and best-to-worst lists: 'bad colours', 'too many stars' and most damning of all, 'corporate logo'. And it's hard to disagree with the author's assessment of the flag of the Central African Republic:

'Do not attempt to disprove the four-colour theorem on your flag'.

h, I discovered this a while back and thought it was great. Since then the Georgian flag has changed; wonder what he makes of the new one?

I, too, learned of this site some years ago, and greatly appreciate it.

Someone should grade the new U.S. quarter designs, which celebrate various states on the reverse.

There should be another rule of "Do not have anything so small that it cannot be clearly guessed at on a computer screen." Some of those shields do not reproduce at all well at small sizes.

This critic would not rate most American state flags (http://www.50states.com/flag/) at all highly; too damned many are simply blue flags with badly-designed state seals on them. Honorable exceptions include Arizona (http://www.50states.com/flag/image/nunst004.gif), New Mexico (http://www.50states.com/flag/image/nunst052.gif) and Tennessee (http://www.50states.com/flag/image/nunst069.gif) (the latter was mistaken for the flag of some obscure Soviet republic, when I bore it in the 1976 Counter-Bicentennial Parade in Philadelphia). I also like Maryland's (http://www.50states.com/flag/image/nunst032.gif); but then, I'm a sucker for good heraldry*.
