I seemed to drop off my optician's list when I was in London, so I went something like ten years without an eyetest and it was only after I moved to Guildford in the nineties I had another test. This was the ten years during which Windows rose to ubiquity and it was quite a shock to discover that the fonts used in Windows were not actually blurred.
