A couple of new trailers for the Thunderbirds movie are out, one here (three sizes) and another at the official site here.

At first sight... oh dear, someone saw Spy Kids and decided that This Was The Movie's Angle. However, on watching the trailers again it may not be that bad.

An awful lot of important things are right. The Thunderbirds are very true to the original machines. TB1 comes out of the swimming pool! TB2 has folding palm trees on the way to the launch pad!!

Some things are odd, but not necessarily wrong. The whole Alan-as-a-teenager idea actually makes sense if you think of the film as being a prequel to the scenario of the TV series; this also explains why Jeff Tracy and Lady Penelope seem a little bit too young. This is a minor retcon where we're seeing International Rescue a few years earlier than we're used too. (This also explains one major thing that is Wrong: Lady Penelope's car not being a Rolls-Royce. She just hasn't bought it yet.)

Some things are just fun: TB2 flying past Ken Livingstone's office and landing next to County Hall :-) And Ben Kingsley looks perfect as The Hood.

It's a bit disconcerting that the original TV theme is nowhere to be heard, but of course trailer music rarely features the main film theme. I do hope they keep it, even just as an end title, although of course what I really want to see is the trailer done just as a close pastiche of the original TV series opening titles. Indeed, someone may have though of this, if this picture is anything to go by.

I do hope this is good.

One thing I noted from the trailer was that the music was very similar to that written for 'Pirates of the Caribbean'.

Which is perfectly standard ...

... watching a trailer for, I think, Sky Captain and the whatevers of Tomorrow, I'm pretty sure they used the Stargate music ... and it is almost de riguer for action SF film trailers to use Alien/Aliens music!
