Have just watched DVD of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Short review: Aaaarrrghhhh!

Longer review:

Um. I suppose it could have been worse. Connery was adequately cast as Quatermain (even though his entry into the League was heavily sanitised from the comic version). Dorian Gray was actually a fairly interesting addition. There were a few nice in-jokes (I liked the "Volcanoes on Mars?" poster) and there were some nice streampunk/dieselpunk set-pieces.

But. But. But... Nemo came across as like the Blue Raja from Mystery Men. Mr Hyde might have been tolerable if we hadn't all seen Hulk. And the less said about Mina Harker (oh, that authentic fin-de-siecle leather outfit) the better.

Must now re-read comics Vol 1 and 2 about half a dozen times to get the crap out of my head...

It was more frustration at such a wasted opportunity. Yes, I can see that there are things in the original comic that would need changing, but the result was just such a disorganised mess.

I've not seen it, but know I must. However, I think my reaction could well be worse than yours!

For somebody who hasn't read the comic, sort of OK, but there are too many bits which go wrong. Nautilus just keeps looking wrong for the places it gets to. Nemo's "automobile"... It could all be far worse, but it's Hollywood action-movie.

What do folks expect?

I went to sleep during the meetup with Hyde in Paris.

No kidding, I really did. I was tired and coffee-less, but I just couldn't stay awake.
