A sad day for the USA - in many ways
Jul. 24th, 2012 08:57 amIt's sad for the USA that the first female American in space, Sally Ride, has died at only 61.
It's even more sad for the USA that despite her amazing achievements and the respect and admiration she received over the last thirty years, for almost all of that time Ride evidently felt obliged to hide the fact that she was in a same-sex relationship.
It's also sad for Ride's partner that she will seemingly be denied benefits as a result of the Defense of Marriage Act.
