Arrived in DC with no problems, to find weather exactly the same as London (clear and freezing). One of my colleagues had never been to Washington before and the other one had only made very short trips, so I took them on a bit of a tour - highlights below:

Arlington Cemetery is always a moving place. On a clear, blue and bitterly cold but bright morning it was even more so than normal; somehow it felt like funeral weather.

The walk across the Memorial bridge was particularly bracing - beneath us, the edges of the Potomac were still frozen.

The US must have a concession on incredibly blue skies (see [livejournal.com profile] tamaranth's recent holiday pics. The contrast between the white marble of the Lincoln Memorial and the deep, dark blue sky was stunning.

The National Air and Space Museum - even though I've been before, it's always an absorbing place to tour. I was very restrained in the gift shop and bought only a remaindered biography of Carl Sagan. (Rather sad when one's bio hits the remainder bin, I think!)

Well, that's all for now. Work tomorrow, followed by more work and then work after that :-)

Funeral weather... now that's a term to play with...

Edmonton (Canada) can do a pretty good line in blue skies. The UK seems to have just too much water vapour up there to be able to manage it properly.
