When I got back in to model-making I quickly found that the rabbit-hole of obsessive detail is as deep as you want it to be. There are numerous specialist suppliers of add-on or replacement parts for model kits, not to mention magazines dedicated just to the art of weathering models! You even get mild scorn within the hobby between those who rather sniffily dismiss kits built 'OOB' (out-of-box, i.e. without third-party or DIY detailing) on the one side and those on the other who roll their eyes at 'rivet-counters' obsessed with getting every last detail right.
