At the NewCon mass signing at Forbidden Planet last night conversation turned to the most recent Who episode and the general disappointment that more hadn't been done with what was probably the elevator-pitch idea of the show.
I am of course referring to the World War II camo-green Daleks, complete with webbing pouches and British markings. (Not to mention willingness to supply tea.) This was a wonderful idea, which could clearly have run and run, and we began to imagine some possible cross-overs with other WWII shows.
(If you like, you can imagine that things went a bit further than was depicted and there were actually further 'Ironsides' which weren't acting and had genuinely been brainwashed/programmed to think they were British - although some of their Dalek characteristics should probably be allowed to surface now and again for comic effect.)
Dad's Army: A new secret weapon is deployed for the Walmington-on-Sea platoon to test (hardly for the first time). But Private Ironside proves to be rather impressionable and soon takes on a mangled assortment of character traits from the platoon's permanent members. Legendary for lines such as "DON'T PA-NIC", "THEY DON'T LIKE IT UP EM", "WE ARE ALL DOOMED" and "STU-PID BOY".
Allo, Allo: Flight Lts Cairstairs and Fairfax are joined by another downed airman, a bizarre combined autopilot and nose turret for the Lancaster Bomber. When it proves impossible to conceal the new arrival, Rene blackmails Lt Gruber into painting it black and presenting it as Hitler's latest V-Weapon during an inspection by General von Klinkerhoffen. (A scene which, for fans of Genesis of the Daleks, makes for a memorable sight gag.)
More suggestions...?
