If the BBC bring out a 12" radio-control model of the WW2 Green Daleks I am so buying one. Especially if the pre-programmed phrases include "WOULD YOU LIKE A CUP OF TEA?"

Not at all sure about the Village Daleks, although (as confirmed in DW Confidential) it's nice to see a nod to the Peter Cushing Who movies. But surely the ur-Dalek is the one from Genesis of the Daleks rather than an overblown Mattel monstrosity?

As for the plot - well, as I said to [livejournal.com profile] swisstone afterwards, Russell T Davies may have taken his Total Bollocks Overdrive with him, but Stephen Moffat has plugged in his Utter Bollocks Hyperdrive and carried straight on.

EDIT Now with appropriate userpic!

I had assumed that Moffat had just taken over the baton of "Total Bollocks Overdrive". In fact I just used it as a three word review of the episode: "Total Bollocks Overdrive"

...

I was a bit amused when the daleks came out in red, white and blue.... but then I realised that the "red" was in fact dark orange - because red was next on the left.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought it was UBH. Suspension of disbelief finally broke down with the 10-minute Spitfire refit. :(

I know, it would have been so easy to have made a reference to a Spitfire already being modified using Dalek-tech, that was then rushed through to completion

Ah yes, the technicolour iDalek. I think I preferred the old design.

I was briefly reminded of the red, white and blue Daleks from the classic 70s story 'The Dalek Invasion of Turin'.

Just about sums it up - the "Spitfire spacedrive from theory in 2 minutes" bollocks was especially silly.

The colourful daleks just look like an easy way to sell five dalek toys where previously you could only sell one... ick. They're more toy-shaped, even. They look like the other main consideration of their design was making it easier to fit someone inside!

In the same way that one used to be able to escape a dalek by running up stairs, I'm expecting a common trope of this series to be evading one by running through a normally-sized door.

Not to mention the fact that London, no matter how good the blackout was, would have been perfectly obvious to the Luftwaffe in the moonlight. We could see it even when the lights were off.

This was possibly the worst written episode ever. Certainly, the worst written one that hasn't cauterised itself from my memory. The sad thing is, there were flashes of something genuinely good in there.

the Village Daleks

I now have "YMCA" going through my head, sung in the dulcet tones of a Dalek voice. Thank you so much for that...

... mind you, with the new design, the Dalek voice is also saying "does my bum look big in this?" :-)

The Dalek design is worse, so much worse.

There's a colouring scheme: white is supreme, red is drone, blue is scientist leaving yellow and orange for strategist and eternal (or vice versa). So you're going to get Dalek ships with mostly strategist, scientist and drones, i.e. orange/yellow, blue and red casings - Star Trek anyone?

It's almost as if the whole script was dreamed up just so they could have that WW2 British Army Camo dalek in the season trailer.

I feel really rather let down.

You could always reprogram the sound chip to offer some tea...
