The Great Martian Name Drive

If you saw my 'Mars 3D' talk at Worldcon you might remember the rather eclectic mix of names for rocks and craters evident in labelled NASA photos from the Mars rovers. There's a very nice background story about this here; as I noted in my talk, an awful lot can be explained by the need to name a rock when sustained by strong coffee on night shift.

Alarmingly, mission controllers are running out of names. I feel it is our fannish duty to assist, so we need some more lists. Fanzines? Conventions? Culture ship names? Real Ales? Pseudonyms of Lionel Fanthorpe?
