It occurs to me I must be one of the last people to get around to blogging about the SFF/BSFA joint event on Saturday, even though I was rather deeply involved in it. As everyone else has noted, it seemed to go very well; both Ian McDonald and [livejournal.com profile] karentraviss gave excellent guest talks and the panel I led on 'Is Science Writing The New SF' seemed to go well, even if the course I tried to steer it on was rather roundabout! Thanks very much to Francis Spufford, [livejournal.com profile] fjm and Oliver Morton for taking part. The 'Best of British' panel was certainly thought-provoking too.

Afterwards there was a pleasant chat in the pub with Ian and [livejournal.com profile] tamaranth (despite the best efforts of Mad Fan With No Social Skills to keep barging into and monopolising our conversation - grrrr....) followed by a very pleasant Italian meal with both of them plus [livejournal.com profile] fjm, [livejournal.com profile] mevennen, [livejournal.com profile] pmcmurray, [livejournal.com profile] purplecthulhu and others. It was a bit worrying when the restaurant door said 'closed', but then the manageress opened up and told us that her chef was late but was coming in, honest, and that she could serve us something to drink if we were happy to wait. Before you knew it, we were all sat down quaffing red wine (or Pink! Drink!, depending)... The Chef did then turn up, and did a very good job for us.

Yesterday was very busy, culminating in a two-and-a-half-hour IRC session to bottom out the Interaction Science Programme. We're nearly there now, and one of today's jobs is to tidy up our discussion, amend the programme and get it ready to go off to be integrated with the other streams. It has been an awful lot of work, and I certainly couldn't have done it without the help and advice of (among others) [livejournal.com profile] purplecthulhu, [livejournal.com profile] daveon, [livejournal.com profile] karentraviss, [livejournal.com profile] vicarage and [livejournal.com profile] fjm.

Finally got round to watching the video of Saturday's Dr Who this morning. I'd seen a lot of other comments on it; I'll post my thoughts later but to be honest having had prior notice of some of the silly aspects they were less distracting and I ended up quite enjoying it. But somehow I don't think Geoff Ryman would approve.
