Grumpy Clanger

Dear Apple,

Only two days after I got my iCloud (was MobileMe, used to be .Mac) email back after a 48-hour outage that you told me was due to a slow data migration it has gone offline again with exactly the same symptoms.

This, for a paid service, is not funny.

I've had a .mac address for something like seven years, ever since I gave up my decade-old Cix address because it was getting mostly spam. I'd like to hang on to it, but there are alternatives.

Oh, how very irritating.

And this (plus privacy issues) is why I am not convinced by cloud computing.

In fairness, IMAP email is probably one of the oldest and least novel aspects of cloud computing, and the idea of having your email held on a central server for access from anywhere is one I'd think most users are comfortable with. If anything, that makes it more frustrating that Apple seems to be having trouble making it work at the moment.
