So Shiny!

Me, encountering an iPad for the first time.

As [livejournal.com profile] autopope would put it, now would not be a good time to fumble my roll against SHINY...

Who are in the background?

[identity profile] major-clanger.livejournal.com 2010-05-23 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Other members of the audience at event #3 on this list (NB that person does not want her real name associated with her LJ so please don't mention the latter here).

It's ok. She was the only one I recognised :-)

Curious where you think I am - I'm not there but 2 of my relatives are..!

So now you've bought it, how do you like it?

[identity profile] major-clanger.livejournal.com 2010-05-23 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it wasn't mine - the person sitting next to me took it out, and I went "Is that what I think it is and if so may I have a look?" That's a slightly posed photo, taken by owner of said device, of me doing an only mildly exaggerated version of my actual first reaction to holding it. Yes, it really does exude that amazing "I do what I am designed to, really well" vibe you get from Apple kit. But, being Apple kit, I will wait until version 2...

Except, it's not a phone?

Now that's what I call a grip'n'grin!

Too big, and no keyboard. I am gradually persuading myself I really don't need any sort of tablet device, something like a smaller eeepc (say the original 7" screen without the surround, a slightly smaller keyboard, and a touch screen instead of a mouse pad) would be much more useful to me.

I think the keyboard, rather than the screen size, sets the lower limit on the size of such a device.

I could see a keyboard unit appearing which clips to the iPad as a protective cover for the screen, and then there are those virtual-keyboard things. How about a VKB as part of an iPad docking stand? But these ideas can add up to horribly expensive, and don't suit everyone.

Just back from a rather debauched weekend where lots of lovely people fed me lots of lovely gin and that... that is a terrifying grin.

I'm backing away nervously from my computer now.
